About

Since the supply chain management field is relatively new, it is going under changes and improvements on a daily basis. Our association follows this pattern and acts with the necessary responsiveness to the new challenges within the field. Thus, in a matter of previous years we have changed our name three times. Initially the name of this group was NAPM-ASU (National Association of Purchasing Managers) which was serving as a student chapter of the National Association. Recognizing the necessity of a name change NAPM switched to ISM (Institute for Supply Management). Consequently, we switched our name to ISM-ASU, again serving as a student chapter.

The past semesters our association has been re-organizing our structure and setting higher goals for our members. We hope to see all of our members achieve internships, receive job offers and create a strong network which will help them with their future careers. The W.P. Carey School of Business provides us with an integrated Supply Chain Management degree which covers all the aspects of the supply chain e.g. Supply Management, Operations, Logistics, Negotiation and Quality Management. We felt that the name of our organization had to be changed once more in order to reflect the possibilities our degree can offer and what we represent as a professional association.

With the long-term goal of having a Supply Chain Management specific career fair every semester, we organized the first Supply Chain Management Career Forum in the fall 2005. The event was a great success with representatives and presentations from 10 companies and 90 attendees. Continuing our preparation and planning for the establishment of an annual career fair this last Spring 08' semester was also a total success; SCMA-ASU hosted 50+ companies and over 150 members. This event gives a chance to our members and professionals to network in a more casual, pressure-free environment.

SCMA-ASU encourages and sponsors its members to attend professional dinners organized by NAPM-AZ and APICS (The Association of Operations Management). We can also provide information about ISM national, CSCMP (Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals) and certifications available in the field. As supply chain management interacts with all aspects of a business we feel it is important to include members of these interest areas in our organization. We encourage all students in the W.P. Carey School of Business to be involved in our association.
